Ensuring a Long Blogging Life

Deborah Sweeney

We’ve all heard time and time again the importance of blogging these days. Blogging gives business a personality and a face that customers can see as human. It’s free advertising. A blog you can talk about anything, including new products and features, tips on employees and even create videos and podcasts. A company blog will create real relationships with customers as they can actively ask questions in the comments section or request topics for the future. The benefits are endless… as long as it’s active!

Having a blog, much like any social networking outlet, is a huge responsibility. Much like caring for the first goldfish. Imagine being seven at the state fair and somehow, against all odds, that crisp, white ping pong ball landed into the daunting mouth of a glass jar. The success is a mystery, and mom is surprised. The car ride home is filled with ‘responsibility talk’ noise. “Now that you have your own pet, because you won it after all, it is your job to feed him once a day with CVS brand fish food and clean his water every couple of weeks. These are the responsibilities of a fish owner.” With goldfish in hand, the seven year old thinks, “Simple enough.” And it is! It really is that easy.

All a standard fish needs is basic care. And if you really take special care of Goldie young fish owners may end up with one of those crazy goldfish who will live for an absurd amount of years. Going to the trouble of attaining a blog then practice the bottom-line responsibilities of providing content, keeping up with comments, and making sure your actual blog looks tidy and modern.

That said, don’t get providing content confused with pumping out overly promotional content when unsure what else to write. Writing about what you do sometimes and your new products is completely appropriate, but be sure to include additional, fun articles just relating to your business or business in general. It’s also okay to skip a day or two in the week when writer’s block rears its ugly head. As long as when you are writing, the content is quality.

How to come up with the best kind of content? Passion!

  • The key to a quality post is enjoying it. Find some facet of business that sparks interest.
  • Passion will shine through the computer screen, and readers will enjoy reading if the writer enjoys writing.

Implement these tips and a blog will have many lives through many fish tank cleanings and many, many cans of fish food.
